Dear Parents,
Would your child like to receive FREE (with no strings attached!) books to read over this summer?
There is no catch! The non-profit group KidsReadNow (kidsreadnow.org) (located in Troy!) has chosen to work with our school to put free books into the hands of our students this summer.
How it works: You look over the paper that came home today, and select 9 books with your child. Fill out the form and return it to school. Over the summer, your child will receive these books in the mail. You and your child will read the book together. On Friday of each week, you will receive an automated phone call, during which you enter the completion code you received with the book. This will ensure that you receive the next set of books. There is nothing to buy, no one will try to sell you anything!
Here's why we want to do this: Research has shown that students lose A LOT of the skills they've learned during the school year over the summer. This will help your child cut down on that loss!
If you would like to see the video that we watched here in class, please click here.
Did I mention this is completely FREE, with no strings attached?!! How could you possible pass up this chance?
If you would like to sign your child up for this program, but don't want to fill out the form, or are having trouble deciding which books to select, please send me a note, and I will be happy to sign your child up for this amazing program!
(By the way, I'm not getting paid for this, either. I just think it's an awesome opportunity!)

Homework for the Week of Apr. 28
Welcome back from Spring Break! I hope you've had a good rest!
Beginning this week, there are no more "leveled reader" books - we've reached the end of the series!
Here is the homework for the week of April 28. PARENTS: Please fill out the short questionnaire at the end of each week's homework to let me know how your child did this week! This is how I will know that your child completed the homework.
When you click on your group's link, you will see a screen similar to this:
The activities in the first column (labeled "Every Day!") are to be completed every day. The repetition of these activities is important, especially for those students who do not yet recognize the letters or sounds. After your child completes the "Every Day!" activities, move on to the activities under the current day. There will almost always be at least one video and at least one game to play - most days there will be several activities, as shown here. The last activity each Friday is the Parent Questionnaire - please don't forget to fill this out - this is how I know that your child completed the homework for this week.
If you have any problems or questions about completing the homework, please give me a call or send me an email (preferred). Have a great week!

Homework for the Week of Apr. 7
Since I am a couple days late posting the homework, I will leave it up to you as to whether or not you have your child complete the Monday & Tuesday activities. If you decide to complete them anyway, feel free to spread them over the week instead of cramming everything into one night.
I have continued the link Raz-Kids for you, since the kids like it so much, and with testing going on this month, we haven't had much chance to get on it at school. My Teacher Username is 'kkrouskopsmith'.
